Arwyp Hospital has been included as one of only 21 Gauteng private hospitals on Discovery Medical Scheme’s Delta Hospital Network List.
Discovery Medical Scheme is perceived as being at the forefront of ongoing efforts to manage healthcare costs on behalf of members. At a media conference in April this year, CEO of Discovery Health, Neville Koopowitz described the Delta Hospital Network list as the ‘Generation 2’ of the scheme’s efforts to keep healthcare provision affordable and of a high standard.
‘Initially, Discovery Health selected certain hospital groups as preferred providers for patients in certain medical scheme options, but over the years we saw that the quality of certain hospitals within any particular group may not be quite the same. The Delta Network List is thus a list of hospitals comprised of hospitals belonging to a range of hospital ownership groups, and including privately owned hospitals, that meet our high standards.
According to the Principal Officer of Discovery Health, Milton Streak, hospitals included on the list were selected to a range of criteria, including efficiency and adherence to best practice.
Discovery members on certain scheme options have all expenses paid if they elect to use a hospital on the Delta Network List, but might be requested to pay a co-payment if they use hospital excluded from the list. There are 21 hospitals and 22 day hospitals on the list.
‘Inclusion on this list is an accolade for Arwyp Hospital,’ said the CEO of Arwyp Hospital, Otto Wypkema.  ‘Discovery Medical Scheme members of the affected options in our area will benefit from the fact that no co-payments will be necessary if they come to our hospital and non-Discovery medical scheme members will be reassured that our hospital has met exacting best practice standards.
