From the 7th to the 14th of February 2010 students from the ATI raised awareness amongst the community in order to acknowledge Sexually Transmitted Infections(STI) and Condom Awareness Week. The Pupil Care Worker group put up posters and placed condoms in the public toilets in the Training Institute. A general email with information regarding the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases was sent to everybody in Arwyp Medical Centre.
On the 11th February 2010 Mrs. C. Odendaal and Mrs. A. Bogatie, assisted by 14 Pupil Care Workers, manned a table in the foyer of the hospital where two learners gave health education, and handed out pamphlets and condoms to patients and members of the public. The rest of the learners distributed condoms and pamphlets at the Kempton Park taxi rank and train station. They also gave health education regarding the prevention of STI’s and the use of condoms. In total 14,000 condoms, obtained from the Ekurhuleni main clinic, were distributed.
