Learners who recently qualified after successful completion of their respective training programs at the Arwyp Training Institute were acknowledged for their achievements at the annual awards function held on 29 July 2011.  At this year’s function 164 certificates were awarded to learners who had successfully completed care worker and nursing programs during the past year, bringing the total number of nurses and care workers trained at Arwyp since 1996 to 1,400!  Of the present permanent care worker and nursing posts in Arwyp, 33% are filled by staff who qualified from the Arwyp Training Institute over the years.
Nine merit awards for outstanding achievements were also handed out.  Amongst the outstanding achievers was Zasskia Roode, who achieved the highest SANC examination results in the country in the South African Nursing Council first year of the Bridging programme with a mark of 91%, and received the Roche Best Bridging student award as well as the Unit Manager’s prize. The guest speaker at the function was Advocate Gideon Phungula, who encouraged learners to continue their development within the profession of nursing. Guests were entertained by a lively 5 man accapella group, Beyond Vocal.
